In this episode, I was joined by Mark Hampton, filmmaker of Unlicensed, to discuss his first feature film, watching it with an audience, the film’s VOD release, and everything in between.
In Unlicensed, Mark was the lead actor, writer, director, producer, and editor, fulfilling his dream of creating his own feature film. Of course, wearing five hats in a feature film was no walk in the park, but Mark’s drive to fulfill his vision outweighed any challenges that ensued.
He reflects on the character development of Danny, the film’s protagonist, and how real-life experiences informed the portrayal of him. Additionally, we discussed how he’s reimagined boxing films and the unique perspective gained from editing his own performance.
Unlicensed follows a city broker trying to get back on his feet after serving time for insider trading, struggling to reconnect with his family, and accept his new reality, which is not as luxurious as it once was. In an attempt to make money fast, he enters an unlicensed boxing match with a cash prize.
Unlicensed had its video-on-demand release and can be streamed on iTunes, Google, Amazon Prime, and Rakuten (check to see if it is available in your territory).
